About Us
WHAT MAKES RHYTHMS UNIQUE:

Rhythms is a unique studio for many reasons. Below you can read about 4 big ideas that makes Rhythms special.

Friendship
Community Service
Taking Dance Education to the Next Level
Recitals that are Affordable and Appropriate

FRIENDSHIP

At Rhythms we strive to make our dancers feel that the studio is a second home, and that their classmates and teachers are a second family. Each month we host a free Rhythms Night; this is a chance for our dancers (ages 8 to 18) to get together for a themed party. We have had Under the Sea, Outer Space Night, The Princess Ball, Holiday Parties, and even a wedding shower when one of our teachers was getting married and a baby shower when one of our teachers was pregnant.

We also try to recognize our students who go above and beyond. At the end of the dance year we host a slumber party for all of our students. At the party we announce who they have chosen to be the outstanding dancers of the year. It is a time for all of the dancers to get together and celebrate a great dance season.

Our dancers really love being at the studio. They often arrive half an hour early for class just to sit in the hang-out room and chat with their friends and teachers. Last year we asked our students where their favorite place was. We expected to get answers like Lake Tahoe and Disneyland, but to our surprise they almost all answered that their favorite place was Rhythms.

COMMUNITY SERVICE

It is very important that our dancers become active members of their community and have opportunities for them to do community service. A few years ago a number of our dancers performed at a Hurricane Katrina benefit that raised over $14,000 for Habitat for Humanity and last year our dance company performed at two senior citizen rest homes and went shopping at Christmastime for a needy family.

During our winter show the dancers get together and vote for one worthy charity. They then get to learn and perform a dance together at the show while we “pass the hat” through the audience. Last year they raised over $1700 for Susan G Koman For the Cure. This year we
raised money for the charity:

TAKING DANCE EDUCATION TO THE NEXT LEVEL

There are a number of ways that try to get our dancers special and unique learning opportunities. Each month we spotlight a famous choreographer on our Learn About Dance Bulletin Board. We also put up dance articles and current dance news so that our dancers are knowledgeable about what they are studying.

In the past we have taken our Rhythms Dancers on field trips to see professional dance shows including Pilobolus and Stomp. We also invite our upper level students to attend several dance conventions each year where they can take classes from world-renowned choreographers and dancers.

Periodically we invite professional dancers in to our studio to teach master classes. These are all great chances for dancers to learn in new ways and extend themselves into the huge dance world.

RECITALS THAT ARE APPROPRIATE AND AFFORDABLE

The two biggest concerns we hear from parents who are the appropriateness of recital costumes, music, and themes and the cost of participating in the recital. We take these concerns very seriously. We always strive to choose music and costumes that will be both fun for the dancers and acceptable to the parents. We also try to keep recital costs low by loaning out costumes instead of having each dancer buy their own. Last year, the average dancer paid around $60 for their spring recital production fee and tickets were only $5 each. Our winter show has a production fee of only $30 per student and tickets are still only $5 each, with some of the money going to charity!
